The client was a US private equity firm that focuses on direct real estate investment. With the lack of supply and fairly stagnant market, private equity firms have had to look further up the risk curve to enable them to get the rates of return that their investors demand. Therefore they acquired a development site in London and were assessing other developments across Europe. However they did not have extensive development expertise in-house.
We used our breadth of knowledge to assess individuals who had the technical development experience, whilst having the necessary commercial acumen to be able to fit within a private equity firm. We searched within property companies and development arms of funds across Europe. We used a variety of tools to assess not only experience, but also personality and intelligence to ensure the best fit with the organisation.
We recruited an individual that had worked for a developer, pan-euro fund manager and a contractor, who had the ideal mix of hands-on bricks and mortar development experience in combination with the numerical acumen to be successful in the role.

The challenges we faced were to ensure that our research covered the full breadth of potential target markets, and to attract a leading player to a business that is not known for providing corporate finance advisory services.
In-depth sector knowledge and rigorous search methodology helped us identify a strong short list of experienced candidates, each with debt capital markets knowledge and the necessary client contacts within regulated industries.
