The Brief

This mid-sized international firm was undergoing rapid expansion due to an increasing international client base with a high demand for prime residential investment opportunities in London.  With significant growth in London residential development and sales, there was widespread demand for prospects with the relationships and track record of prime residential transactions.

Our Process

We successfully delivered our short-list and an offer was made to the preferred candidate. However, the candidate subsequently decided they wanted to set up their own company instead. So we went back to the market and think creatively about alternative strategies, advising the client to look at a slightly lessened level of seniority.

The Results

Within a highly competitive market, we successfully identified and attracted an individual from a widely recognised as a market leader in this space. The chosen candidate not only brought work to their own service line, but also introduced new work to others in the business. This helped create a more collaborative working environment for the entire firm.

Equity Partner, Strategic Property Advisor

The Brief

This global multidisciplinary property consultancy had several highly lucrative, landed estate advisory mandates due for renewal. There was not an obvious successor for the key client account leader, which led to a significant renewals risk. It was critical to appoint a high-profile, market-leader to reassure clients they would continue to receive the same levels of service. 

Our Process

The profile, technical knowledge, contact base and leadership skills could have come from a variety of sub-sectors, so we extended the coverage beyond direct competitors, to search for people working within fund managers, asset managers, property companies, corporates and the wider consultancy market. We identified a shortlist of candidates, all of whom had the right experience, technical skills and market profile.

The Results

The successful candidate was previously MD of a leading investment management firm and brought instant credibility, high market profile and a strong statement to the market.  Within 6 months, he not only retained the key property mandates, beating top global competitors along the way, he was promoted to Deputy Head of Corporate Finance and tasked with growing new service lines.

Head of Asset Management, Property Consultancy

The Brief

The client, a leading global property consultancy, wanted a Partner to develop their asset management division and differentiate them from the other firms in the market – they asked us to identify candidates outside the property sector.

Our Process

We took time and care to develop a detailed person specification with our client. We formed a strategy for identifying other industries where people with the relevant skills could be working. We provided a strong shortlist to our client, with candidates from an array of backgrounds including retail management, vehicle leasing and telecoms distribution. Each had strengths we identified as business critical during our client consultation time.

The Results

All candidates were able to demonstrate the client’s key objectives of a different approach and a focus on client value, rather than commoditised pricing. The chosen candidate was able to bring new ideas, fresh perspective and a more disciplined approach through different systems and processes for the business.
